Shot of the Year 2023 Winners
Every month we choose one photo from our students as our ‘Shot of the month’. This is based on the amount of engagement their photo gets, together with our judgment here at The School of Photography. Having put all of these shots together, we then have a final ‘Shot of the Year’ vote, and the results are in!
We added all the pictures to our Instagram feed and created a Facebook Gallery showcasing all the photos. We then asked you, our members, viewers and readers, to scroll through and show some love to the pictures you felt were most deserving of ‘Shot of the Year’.
We had some incredible submissions last year, but of course there can only be two winners

WINNER - THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE
2023 offered us some incredible photography, ranging from Wildlife to Astrophotography. This year’s ‘People’s Choice Winner’ really did standout, and received a fantastic response from you guys! Your choice of 2023’s ‘Shot Of The Year’ went to…
Congratulations to Frank Harley.
Frank told us that it was taken on trip to Southwold pier in Suffolk. A truly fantastic long exposure shot, and it seems you all agree as Frank received an outstanding amount of votes. Well done Frank, we will be in touch shortly to arrange your prizes!

We loved this response from Paul to that month’s assignment theme ‘Chiaroscuro’. Paul said “The morning drill. Taken in inner Mongolia in mid sept this year.”

Words from our Pro’s
Tom Archer writes - “I like December’s image of the horses. This image has all the ingredients of a stunning capture. The light is incredible, the photo is crisp, punchy and dynamic. I would be proud to have taken this one.”
Tom leads our Landscape Photography Course which you can check out here.
Mark McGee writes – “I’m going to for the wild horses shot. I think the action captured is first class. I like the telephoto compression and the position of the Shepard and the main horse’s expression. The exposure on the other horses is very good and the colour choice. I thought the slightly over exposed sky was distracting but that’s obviously where the sun was so very hard to expose a high contrast scene like this.”
Mark leads our Headshot Photography Course which you can check out here.
Trudy Kepke writes – “Wow, what a competition. I've been finding it hard between two of my favourites really which are the Heron photograph by Mel Harrison and the plane photograph by Andrea Martynowski, I've got to choose the plane photograph as my winner. The colours and the clouds, reflections and the lights and capturing the moving propellers. I just think this wasn't an easy shot to get really. Night-time photography is hard at the best of times but a plane with moving propellers and that beautiful sky and reflections. This is the winning photo for me I love it. Well done, Andrea.”
Trudy leads our Fine Art Landscape Photography Course which you can check out here.
Well done again to both our winners. The competition in 2023 brought some excellent pictures and well done to all that submitted their photos. We look forward to seeing what 2024 brings.
